Overview
Admission Requirements
Students must formally be admitted to the College of Graduate Studies at YSU, and in the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program ( face to face or online) before the student can begin the coursework necessary to complete the Homeland Security Certificate.
Certificate Requirements
Students desiring to pursue the Certificate in Homeland Security must complete 12 hours from the following.

The Certificate in Homeland Security requires 12 semester hours from above.
Students are highly encouraged to also take PHLT 5810 Agents of Mass Casualty and PHLT 5812 Crisis Management in Public Health.
Students must maintain a “C” or better in all course work, must satisfy all prerequisites, and cannot take a course on a “CR/NC” basis. Applicants for this graduate certificate must meet the requirements for admission to the College of Graduate Studies at YSU. Not more than 9 semester hours in the thesis option or 12 semester hours in the non-thesis option of a student's total course work for the M.S. degree may be taken from course offerings below the 6900 level.
Learning Objectives
- Evaluation: Students will demonstrate knowledge on how to evaluate programs, policies, theories, and research related to the issues involving Homeland Security.
- Administration: Students will demonstrate knowledge on how to use key CJ concepts to administrate programs that deal with Homeland Security both domestic and international.
- Research: Students will demonstrate knowledge on how to perform their own research related to investigating, preparing and responding to Homeland Security situations.
