The required readings are designed to complement one another throughout the proposal development process. The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association provides guidance on scholarly writing, manuscript preparation, citation, and formatting, while Surviving Your Dissertation offers practical strategies for developing the proposal, working effectively with the dissertation chair and committee, preparing for the proposal defense, and revising the proposal following committee feedback.
Students are also expected to consult current peer-reviewed scholarly literature related to their dissertation topic throughout the course and to use the Youngstown State University Dissertation Guidelines and Graduate School resources when preparing proposal materials.
